It comes once a year and this year the place to be on May 7th will be the Paradise Valley Atomic Comics. Moi’ will be there doing a Monster Draw with the talented Daniel Davis of Steamcrow, who does the daily web comic, Monster Commute. We will be the alternative to superhero sketches by providing kids (and adults) with a Monster sketch instead in exchange for a donation to the HERO Initiative. I’m excited about this because Daniel and I both specialize in monsters/creatures/weird hybrids more than superheroes. Our new “Monster Draw” will be a dedicated corner for those of you who prefer monsters to superheroes. And Daniel is one talented stud with an awesome mustache, so come by and check us out.

Also at the store, to fulfill those superhero urges will be the extremely talented, Eiser nominated Tony Parker, who illustrates “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.” (the original book that Bladerunner was adapted from) from BOOM! Studios. He is an amazing artist and a fun guy to be around too.

As if that was not enough, we will also be joined by Jeff Pina from Sideways8 Studios who does the original comics “Imaginative,” “Dr. Oblivions Guide to Teenage Dating” and “Monkeys in Space.” He is another one that is just as great for kids as he is for adults. He has a great illustrative style and I am especially fond of how he draws noses.

Hello, Dahlings. I hope you all enjoyed the holiday of your choice this year. I am looking forward to the new year, as I have lots of plans for more projects. I am currently waiting for the first of which to come back from the printer, which may launch a whole new line of products from me, but we will discuss that next week when I have something to show for it.

Until then, here is the newest Super Vamp. As you can tell, Bat is STILL in the bathroom. The Hot Dog and Doughnuts swimsuit edition of “JUNK” magazine must be very intellectually stimulating. Super Vamp is still burning from Father Water’s garlic powder pills and very soon SV will have to go to work and face Betty Blueblood again. If he is still itching, she is sure to find out his secret identity!

This weekend I will be at the Atomic Comics Mesa Superstore for GODZILLAFEST! I will be promoting a new collaboration-comic, along with many of the other writers and artists that are featured in it as well. The book is called “Robot (heart) Kaiju”  featuring the talents of: Ryan Cody, Eric Mengel, Dennmann, Eric Esquivel, Dave Baker, Joe Brown, Glen Curren, Sam Laggren, Angela Montgomery, Melissa Palacios, David Sanchez, Shawn Demumbrum, Ernie Najera, Bill Bailey, Justin Miller, Thomas Healy, and Jeff Pina. Oh, and I’m included in there as well.

Come by between 12 – 4 pm  and pick up a copy. Plenty of the creators will be there so you can really get it signed up the wazoo.

Super Vamp is currently trying to find somewhere to wash off the garlic powder that the cruel tyrant, Father Water has thrown on him in an attempt to escape. Super Vamp is almost indestructible and this although this is not enough to kill him, it is enough to make him horribly uncomfortable. And seeing as how he has to go to work at the Bleeding Hearts Blood Bank soon, he really needs to get it washed off. Join us next week for more vampiric hijinx as he continues on his desperate search for a good shower, provided it’s not with holy water.

So, I know I’ve been MIA for a week or so. Halloween does this to me every year. Between preparing for appearances and getting monster’s costumes ready, I sort of let other thing lapse. But, here now is Super Vamp #60.  I hope you enjoy!

Next weekend I will be enjoying all the comic-filled pleasures that the Tucson Comicon has to offer. If you live within a 500 mile radius, you should come and check it out. I will be sharing a booth with the fabulous Daniel Bradford of Robot-13 fame. Other big name acts include Steamcrow’s Daniel Davis, Chew’s John Layman and Red Meat’s Max Cannon. There are way more but too many to mention, so I hope y ou come down and check it out for yourself. It is being held on Saturday, November 6th, 2010 at the Hotel Arizona in downtown Tucson. Greeting, Dahlings. Only one more day until Halloween and I am pleased to say that I will be spending my All Hallows Eve-Eve playing hostess at Jesse James Comics. They will be having a costume contest with moi as the judge starting at 3:30 with mystery prizes awarded to the winners. They will also have tons of frightening sales going on. Bring down the kiddies as well, as Jesse always has nice free gift packages for them, so start your trick or treating a bit early this year.

As Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year (surprised?) I wanted to give you a little All Hallow’s Eve history. Most people believe that Halloween is most closely linked to the Celtic Holiday, Samhain, a word meaning “Summer’s end.” They believed that at this time of the year (the darker half of the year) the border between our world and the spirit world became thin enough for spirits to pass through. Dearly departed loved one’s spirits were honored with festivals, but they would wear costumes to ward of evil spirtits which may have passed through the borders as well. Many people believe that Halloween is a time to celebrate dark creatures of the night, but history proves the opposite. What a lovely holiday it is to celebrate our loved ones who have left this realm. Many of these myths though comes from the wide spread use of fire and blood in Halloween activities, but even those have roots in history. Not only did the Celts not have electricity and needed fire for warmth and to see in the earlier rising darkness of the colder months, but Samhain was a time when the coming cold made it necessary for them to begin harvesting crops and slaughtering livestock to prepare for the winter ahead. Bonfires would be used in celebrations to cook large feasts and merriment would take place.

The day after Halloween is called All Saints Day, Feast of All Saints or Dia De Los Muertos and has it’s roots in Catholicism. I once spent this day with a family friend in a graveyard, cleaning up her mother’s grave and celebrating her life, which is the purpose of this holiday. Many cultures really get into this with large parties in cemeteries with food and drinks aplenty.  I think both of these holidays are a perfect balance of tradition, remembrance and fun all rolled up into one. I hope you all have a frightfully good and safe time this Halloween.
